Fire Origin and Cause Analysis

GT ENGINEERING’s engineering and scientific staff has expertise in all aspects of fire and explosion investigation and analysis. From field determination of fire origin and cause at the scene to sophisticated laboratory analysis of fire growth, our staff has the technical depth to handle the most complex investigations.

The staff at GT ENGINEERING has advanced degrees in engineering and science. Most have NAFI certifications in fire investigation as well. We have broad experience in:

  • Fire/explosion origin and cause determination.
  • Household appliance evaluation/causation determination.
  • Root cause/failure mode analysis.
  • Fire barrier and active protection system analysis/evaluation.
  • Materials response to thermal/environmental conditions.
  • Code interpretation.
  • Automotive fire investigation.

Through ties to the University of Washington, GT ENGINEERING staff members have given multi-day seminars nationwide on automotive fire investigation and analysis. Attendees have included firefighter and law enforcement officials, automotive industry representatives, architects, insurance personnel, and attorneys. We regularly attend courses and seminars, participate in professional organizations related to the field and have published technical papers on fire investigation and analysis.

GT ENGINEERING adopts a multi-disciplinary approach to fire investigation, utilizing staff with expertise in mechanical engineering, fire science, fire protection engineering, metallurgy, materials science, and chemistry to solve complex problems. Our analytical chemistry laboratory provides added strength providing analysis of accelerants and assessments for fire damage to materials and involved in or affected by fire.
